NC House of Representatives

Efton Sager NC House Representative District 11
|
As the Representative for House District Eleven I will uphold the values of those that I
serve. There is nothing more important to me than having your trust. Anytime that a
constituent has a concern I will make myself available to listen and, if possible, work out a
solution to their concern.
I value the concern of all those in the Eleventh District and will give equal consideration on
the views of everyone. One of the large concerns of constituents in the rural area during the
2009 Legislative session was involuntary annexation This is an area where I could not
support the actions of municipalities. I personally feel that the law that gives municipalities
authority to annex rural communities without people living in those areas having a voice,
violates personal property rights. I will continue to work to see that this outdated legislation
is reformed.
I can say that I am proud to be a part of a delegation that allows every member to vote their
convictions. When there is a Republican Caucus and the House Minority Leader announces
what the caucus position is, a member has a right to take a different stance, if he/she has
strong convictions that morally or ethically they see the stand differently, they are permitted
without prejudice to take that stand. This is in contrast to how the other party operates. I
have witnessed several times on the House floor when Democrat members walked off the
floor because they could not support the stand of their party. I do not believe that the
constituents of elected members are being properly represented when they "duck" a vote,
strictly to uphold party unity.
Currently the biggest concern for our area is getting the economy moving. That means
creating jobs. I am totally committed to working with all interested parties. A large part of
this work includes working to insure that government becomes more business friendly. Too
many times government gets in the way of business by passing bad legislation, therefore
before any new law is passed it needs to be very closely vetted, and the question asked
“will this hurt business?” I am proud to say that during the 2009 Long session I was rated
as the fifth most conservative member in the North Carolina House and also received a high
rating for being business friendly. This rating was based on my voting record by an outside
conservative group.
The eleventh district is all within the boundaries of Wayne County (District 11 ).
I consider it a great honor to serve the people I the eleventh district and always welcome
your input. I truly strive to be what the title of the office indicates (representative). For that
reason please let me know how you view the issues. Sometimes the view on a particular
issue is very close, and that is when it is so important to get your input. Please be assured
that I do listen, and there will be times when we disagree and that is because I have listened
to everyone and have to make an informed and ethical decision based upon strong
convictions.
You may call me anytime at (919) 922-1484. Additional contact information is listed on the
NC General Assembly Website.
Sincerely,
