Efton served as a Wayne County commissioner for eight years before
being elected to the NC House in November 2008. The other elected
offices in which he has served are:

  • Southern Wayne Sanitary District 1977-1979
  • Appointed Wayne County Board of Elections 1998-2000
  • President East Carolina Council of Government 2004-2008
  • Chairman Wayne County Chapter American Red Cross 2008-2010

He is a certified Lay Speaker for the United Methodist Church and he
belongs to the following organizations:

  • Lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans
  • American Legion
  • Veterans of Foreign wars
  • Elks Lodge
  • Masonic Lodge
  • Gideon

Efton and his wife Deloris belong to the United Methodist faith and they
are very active members of Brogden United Methodist Church, Dudley
NC.

He retired from the US Air Force after serving 21 years. He served in
both Korea and Vietnam and was awarded the Bronze Star in Vietnam.

He and his bride of over 50 years, Deloris, are the parents of two
wonderful children, Debra Kornegay and David Sager. They have two
very special grandchildren, Jacob Kornegay and LeeAnn Sager.

In addition to numerous management schools while in the military, he
attended Wayne Community College and received an Associate Degree
in Business in 1981. Prior to his election to the NC House, Efton was
employed as the Business Manager of a logging company for over 25
years.
